Hello World!
As a teen and young man I avoided learning to program computers like the plaque. I thought I was too cool for school.
I'm kicking myself now, lamenting a misspent youth. I can't seem to get much past the hello world stage, but someday...
About Me
I've always liked to tinker, and over the past couple of years I've really turned it up a notch. Starting off by building myself reprap 3D printer at home and more recently by helping found and operate the Maker Station makerspace in Marietta, GA. I don't think I would have ever built the printer if not for first reading about them in Make Magazine way back in 2005 and by discovering Freeside Atlanta maker space around 2010.
My background, skills set, and passions are primarily mechanical... I'm a knuckle dragging mechanical engineer, but I'm dragging my knuckles straight into the future trying to pick up some rudimentary programming and electronic skills. I'm particularly interested in the intersection of mechanical and digital.
Thank you interwebz for sharing the knowledge,

3D Printing
The first printer I built (helped build) was actually for Freeside Atlanta. Along with it, the first wiki I ever wrote was it's wiki page and bill of materials. Somehow the printer was dubbed the "Kracken Bot" and you can find its wiki here
I built a clone of that printer at home and currently list it on www.makexyz.com and use it primarily for printing trinkets, gifts, and the occasional useful item. I pick up only occasional print jobs off of makexyz and almost always the jobs end up being way more trouble than they're worth.
The most useful (and rewarding) things that I have printed by far are the e-Nable 3D printed hand prothesis. This project has been a ton of work but just overall awesome. So far we have printed up hands for two separate kids and made up dedicated webpages for these builds:
Other stuff I've designed and printed can be found at there respective repositories:
